IN RESPONSE TO THE CURRENT COVID-19 PANDEMIC,
THE BORING LITTLE GIRLS CLUB HAS DECIDED TO LAUNCH
THE #COMMUNITYFIRST INITIATIVE.
WE WILL BE SPOTLIGHTING DIFFERENT ACTIONS BEING TAKEN
IN THE COMMUNITY TO SUPPORT EACH OTHER IN THESE HARD TIMES
Skipping Stone is an essential Calgary service that connects trans and gender diverse youth, adults and families with comprephensive and low barrier access to the support that they need and deserve including: community, mental health, medical services and educational opportunities.
‘What we want folks to know is that we are continuing to find safe and creative ways to provide our most essential services: intakes, peer support, mental health and counselling and support with navigation of the medical system and ID change processes wherever possible.
To do our part in helping keep our community healthy and strong, we have moved most of these services online, using secure virtual technology, and a whole lot of love. We will also continue to do our best to support folks with a diverse set of needs in creative ways and invite folks in need of things at this time to e-mail and let us know.
While our groups and events have been postponed for now, we will soon be announcing some exciting virtual events on our social media over the coming weeks that we invite folks to stay tuned for'
‘At Centre for Sexuality we have made the decision to close our physical office space but are still offering some services remotely. Our groups and programs have been canceled and postponed but our Counselling Team is continuing to see clients (for free as always) through phone calls and video conferencing sessions. Our Counselling services can be found on our website
Counselling topics include (but are not limited to):
We also have free condoms and pregnancy tests attached to our (closed) office door in the Centre 15 building should anyone need them during this time. We will continue to offer pregnancy options counselling by phone and video conferencing if folks need that type of support.
If folks have questions related to sexuality and sexual health we will continue to have educators respond to them through: firstname.lastname@example.org or, people can submit questions through the online question box featured on the right hand side of our website
‘Welcome to Project Nightlight. This non-profit is focused on breaking the silence around mental health and normalizing our thoughts and feelings to create stronger foundations for families. Project Nightlight gives real people a chance to break the silence and join a community of individuals focused on communicating their experiences, coping with mental health issues, and learning through a network of resources. Here you will find people sharing their mental health stories and connecting with a broad group of like-minded individuals’
Also, Project Nightlight has created a super fun game called ‘Chit Chat’, the perfect way to spend your social distancing/self isolation time! ‘Chit Chat’ is a conversation starting game and will be available as a free printable in their newsletter so make sure you’ve signed up!
La Donna Barba is an inclusive, eco-salon located in Inglewood.
‘Something I’ve decided to do which is usually considered taboo in the hair industry is to support people in cutting or colouring their own hair via FaceTime appointments. I’ve always been super cool with people doing their own touch-ups at home but with this forced distancing I thought that offering actual video call could be a fun way to educate anyone who’s wanting to freshen up their hair or make a change.
I’ve never like the idea of discouraging people to take control over something on their own body, especially with something so changeable. Hair grows and the act of cutting it yourself is extremely empowering and cathartic. Whether it’s fuelled by creativity, boredom, a want to control something in such a confusing and weird time, I am SO down to either walk someone through it step-by-step or simply help them process their feelings’

‘ “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can” is a quote by John Wesley that has always meant something to me. Now more than ever, it means so much more + resonates during this time of need
It is during this time, that I’ve become incredibly inspired and have been approached to collaborate with two of #yyc’s incredible small businesses, Matte Black Studio YYC + Cinic Studio to design t-shirts to support their amazing fundraising initiatives in our city.
‘True Büch is a Calgary based kombucha company that first opened its doors in 2014. It started small, and the goal was simple - to brew great tasting kombucha and give back to the local community that supports us. Since then True Büch has found its way into some of our favourite retailers across the country.
Currently, True Buch is Contacting the winners of our IG giveaway where we asked the community to nominate a health care worker and we are picking 25 at random to receive a free growler filled with buch as a way to say thank you!
We launched our online store for the first time and are offering wholesale pricing and free contactless delivery in Calgary as a way to say thank you for supporting our small business'
‘We don’t want COVID-19 to stop you from producing dope music. So we’ve created an online contest to keep things interesting. 20 artists, 2 beats, 2 winners. Entry fee is $10.00/person, prize is valued at $500+. Everyone for each team of 10 will be using the same beat; one is a trap beat, one has a more old skool vibe. Whichever artists records the BEST 32 bars on the beat wins the prize. And here’s the catch; you have to do this AT HOME with minimum equipment’

‘Hi, I just saw your instagram post about shout-outs to not for profits and for profits and wanted to let you know about what Bon A-Pet Bakery is doing!
We are in self-isolation as my husband has a lung condition and we are both over 65. We don't dare risk his health by coming in contact with anyone -- which also includes our own family.
Yesterday, we realized we were at the ends of the barrel for food for our Sheepadoodle, Beaumont. My husband called Bon A-Pet in Bowness and they were ready and able to deliver to our door, without any contact, and no fee for delivery.
Greatly appreciated and so effortless’
